The spirit of ecstasy in comfort ride by a car with a difference …

Just discover your true potential. Once you have travelled, the voyage will never end. And that is by the Rolls-Royce travel … just revealed a whole collection of bespoke Ghost cars called the Silver Ghost Collection. It is an important celebration as the Silver Ghost, produced in 1906, actually was named “the best car in the world” upon completion of a non-stop endurance voyage that covered 14,371 miles.

An incredible achievement in 1906, now with a limited edition of only 35 Rolls-Royce Ghost cars designated for the Silver Ghost Collection. The British company based in Goodwood has solidified its status as the ultimate in the world of cars.

As is the case with every single Rolls-Royce car, the Silver Ghost Collection automobiles get a rather special and unique interior. Apart from the unique Cassiopeia Silver paint that echoes the original from 1906, the Ghost from the Silver Ghost Collection gained polished wheel centres and an awesome blacked-out front grille.

Back in 1906, Charles Rolls and Claude Johnson managed to complete a 14,371-mile journey that dramatically reshaped the perception of what a car is actually able to do. Now, a century later, Rolls-Royce is still considered to be “the best car in the world” by many. That is the power of achievement. With Rolls-Royce, it is all about achievements.

Matthew Butt, Product Manager at the Ghost, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, commented, “Careful consideration has been paid to the Collection’s defining features. References extolling the past are skilfully hand-crafted into the Ghost’s interior and exterior, creating a contemporary homage which speaks as much of today’s great brand as the original Silver Ghost does of its day. This is a truly remarkable Collection.”

While the detailed specifications are most certainly kept from the prying eyes of journalists and those who cannot afford this magnificent piece of art, I did figure out that the Silver Ghost Collection features a number of throwback touches that references that first Silver Ghost, then called the 40/50hp. Actually, it was only in 1907 that Rolls-Royce designated the Silver Ghost name to it and Autocar declared it as the best car in the world. The title stands to this day. Only now, it is applicable to any Rolls-Royce envisioned or approved in Goodwood.

Rolls-Royce went above and beyond anything in creating the silver finish for this car. The collection is distinguished from the rest of Rolls-Royce cars by a Hallmark of AX201. Obviously, the latest Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Collection celebrates one of the most epic voyages ever undertaken.

10 facts every Rolls-Royce fan should know

  1. Rolls-Royce Ltd was a car and airplane engine manufacturing company founded in 1906 by Charles Stewart Rolls and Frederick Henry Royce. The same year, the company introduced its first car, the Silver Ghost. The car ran non-stop for a record-breaking 24,000 km.
  • The company was nationalized by the UK government in 1971. Two years later, the car division separated as Rolls-Royce Motors. Rolls-Royce Ltd continued as a nationalized company before being privatized in 1987 as Rolls Royce Plc.
  • Approximately 65 per cent of all Rolls-Royce cars ever built are still on the road today.
  • Rolls-Royce Motors was acquired by the British conglomerate Vickers in 1980 and then purchased by BMW in 1998, even though BMW’s final offer was beaten by Volkswagen. Rolls-Royce chose BMW because the companies already had joint business ventures. BMW then built a new, dedicated Rolls-Royce factory in Goodwood, England.
  • The Rolls-Royce Phantom was introduced in 2003 and is the first incarnation of the new generation of Rolls-Royce cars under BMW. Customers can choose from, hold your breath, 44,000 colours.
  • The birth of every Phantom takes place in Germany, where close to 200 aluminium sections and 300 alloy parts are welded by hand. It takes at least two months to build a Phantom.
  • The Phantom has a V-12 engine what can push the car from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds.
  • The hood ornament is called The Spirit of Ecstasy and was commissioned in 1911. Today, the Spirit of Ecstasy is mounted on a mechanism that retracts the ornament into the grille by remote control or automatically in the event of a collision.
  • Every Phantom comes with Teflon-coated umbrellas that are built into the doors and pop out with the touch of a button.
  1. It takes around 75 square metres for the upholstery of each Phantom, and the job takes up to 17 days.
